The nature of the Aeromonas fermentation.

چکیده
The genus Aeromona8 was established by Kluyver & van Niel (1936) for pseudomonads fermenting carbohydrates with the production ofcarbon dioxide and hydrogen. Since von Wolzogen Kiihr (1932) had previously shown that a xnember of this group, Pseudomonas fermentan8, gave a positive VogesProskauer reaction, the existence of a butylene glycol fermentation in the genus was suspected, although the absence of exact data on the products of fermentation left this point unsettled. During the course of an intensive investigation on the bacteriological production of 2:3-butylene glycol (Adams & Stanier, 1944), it seemed desirable to make a somewhat closer study of this little-known Aeromona8 fermentatior.. The recent discovery of polar flagellation in P. ateu8 hydrophilus (Kulp & Borden, 1942; Guthrie & Hitchner, 1943), taken in conjunction with its fermentative abilities, mark this organism as an Aeromonas species, and since cultures were readily available it was chosen as a representative of the group.

Production of Non-Ribosomal Peptide Synthetase (NRPS)- Dependent Siderophore by Aeromonas Isolates
Background: Aeromonas species are Gram-negative ubiquitous bacteria, facultative anaerobic rods that infect both invertebrates and vertebrates. Various fish species develop hemorrhagic disease and furunculosis due to Aeromonas spp. Aeromonas strains generate certain active compounds such as siderophores, which are the final products of non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) activity. The prese...
متن کاملThe genus Aeromonas: biochemical characteristics, atypical reactions, and phenotypic identification schemes.
A total of 193 strains representing 14 different Aeromonas genomospecies were evaluated for 63 phenotypic properties to create useful tables for the reference identification of mesophilic aeromonads. Only 9 of 62 biochemical tests (14%) yielded uniform results, and the fermentation of certain carbohydrates was found to be linked to specific species. A number of unusual or aberrant properties fo...
متن کاملEnumeration and characterization of Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas caviae isolated from grocery store produce.
Starch-ampicillin agar was used to quantitatively isolate Aeromonas sp. from retail grocery store produce. All produce sampled, including parsley, spinach, celery, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli, and lettuce, contained Aeromonas sp. In most instances, the count of Aeromonas sp. increased 10- to 1,000-fold during 2 weeks of storage at 5 degrees C. Eleven (92%) of 12 kinds of produce yielded cytotoxic...

Important biochemical reactions in conventional tests were compared with counterpart reactions in two multiple test systems, API-20E (Analytab Products, Plainview, N.Y.) and Aeromonas hydrophila medium, to evaluate their accuracy for the identification of motile Aeromonas spp. isolated from fish. In a total of 49 Aeromonas spp. isolates and 10 A. hydrophila reference strains, false-negative or ...
